Saturday, Nov. 7, is shaping up as a busy morning for city services in Frisco: the fall Chunk Your Junk drop-off runs at the Environmental Collection Center while Frisco Commons Park hosts a new combined Arbor Day festival and, that afternoon, the start of the rescheduled Frisco Camp Out.

Chunk Your Junk

The free, do-it-yourself disposal event runs from 8 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the Environmental Collection Center, 6616 Walnut St. It is open only to Frisco residents who have a city utility billing account. Staff will check for a driver's license and a City of Frisco water bill, and the addresses must match.

Apartment residents cannot take part, according to the city's event page, which points them to the regular household hazardous waste hours instead.

It is a drive-up event with no walk-up drop-offs, and residents unload their own items except household hazardous waste, which attendants handle. The line opens at 8 a.m. and enters heading south on First Street from North County Road; the city recommends being in line by 12:30 p.m. and warns of long waits.

Accepted items include paper for shredding (up to four boxes per vehicle), bundled cardboard, plastic bags and foam, yard waste and untreated wood, metal, trash, recycling, electronics, donations and household chemicals such as paint, gasoline, oil, batteries and light bulbs.

Prescription pills are taken with a Frisco police officer on site; the city asks residents to empty pills into a single bag and leave needles at home. Appliances that contain Freon cost $40, billed to the utility account, and there is a limit of two TVs and 20 gallons of paint and chemicals combined.

Bison & Blossoms

At Frisco Commons Park, Bison & Blossoms replaces two older events, ArborFest and Buffalo Stomp. The 9 a.m. Arbor Day welcome includes a proclamation and a sapling giveaway, followed by live animal demonstrations at 9:30 a.m. and a guided tree tour and native seed stomp at 10:15 a.m.

Activities are set near the splash pad, and the event goes on rain or shine. The city says residents can also help the Frisco Garden Club and council members plant a tree at a city park.

Camp Out moves to November

Frisco Camp Out, the city's overnight family camping event at Frisco Commons Park, has been rescheduled to Nov. 7-8. The calendar listing runs from 2 p.m. Saturday to 10:30 a.m. Sunday and says dinner and a light breakfast are included, along with movies and s'mores.
