Ezequiel Durán's two-out homer in the third evened Sunday at 2-2. His ground-rule double two innings later scored Wyatt Langford and Corey Seager, and the Texas Rangers beat the Milwaukee Brewers 7-4 at American Family Field.
The Associated Press credited Durán with the homer, the double, and three RBI as Texas stopped a four-game losing streak and avoided a sweep. The Rangers moved to 67-70. Milwaukee dropped to 85-52 and had a four-game winning streak cut short. ESPN's box lists Texas with 10 hits and one error and Milwaukee with seven hits and one error.
Two swings that flipped the afternoon
Both of Durán's hits came off Brewers starter Dustin May, who took the loss and fell to 6-9. ESPN measured the third-inning drive at 410 feet to left-center, knotting the score at 2-2. Two innings later he doubled into ground-rule territory, scoring both runners and making it 4-2.
CBS Sports' box lists the homer as Durán's 15th of the season. The AP recap described the swing without attaching a season total.
May lasted 4.1 innings with six hits, four earned runs, four strikeouts, and three walks, per ESPN's pitching line. He was on the mound four days after a 106-mph comebacker from the New York Mets' A.J. Ewing struck him in the upper back, bruised his right scapula, and ended that start after one pitch, the AP reported.
First four hitters, then Texas stacks on
Kumar Rocker's first four batters all reached. Brice Turang walked, and Garrett Mitchell, Jake Bauers, and Jackson Chourio singled. Bauers' single scored Turang. Chourio's single scored Mitchell. ESPN's scoring plays put Milwaukee up 2-0 before Texas had an out to show for the inning.
The Rangers got on the board in the second when Díaz doubled into ground-rule territory and Cody Freeman scored. After Durán's tying homer and go-ahead double, Joc Pederson went deep off Grant Anderson in the sixth. ESPN put that ball at 380 feet to right, making it 5-2.
