SamaCare announced a new collaboration with AmerisourceBergen Specialty GPOs to deliver its prior authorization platform to specialty physician practices. The agreement grants access to the technology across several medical fields, including retina, rheumatology, oncology, and neurology.
The SamaCare platform is designed to automate administrative workflows for physician-administered medications. According to the company, the system helps practices manage the submission, tracking, and management of prior authorizations for buy-and-bill medications across various payers and plans. The company states that nearly 8,000 providers and major pharmaceutical manufacturers currently use the platform.
Charles Deckers, vice president of Business Development and Alliances at AmerisourceBergen, stated that the organization seeks to supply practices with modern technologies to enhance care delivery and coordination. He noted that the partnership allows providers to digitize and automate the prior authorization process, which he said reduces administrative overhead and improves outcomes.
Deckers added that the tool aims to make prior authorizations more predictable, potentially benefiting revenue cycle management and patient satisfaction.
Syam Palakurthy, CEO and co-founder of SamaCare, described the collaboration as a step to solidify the company's position as a market leader in prior authorization management for medical benefits. He said the partnership supports the mission to make life-changing treatments available to patients when needed.
SamaCare reports that practices using its platform for prior authorization management and benefit verification experience a 67% faster resolution time. The company also claims a six to ten times reduction in staff time spent per prior authorization and an 18% higher first-time approval rate.
