Former NFL quarterback Will Grier has transitioned from player to coach, joining the Dallas Cowboys staff as an offensive assistant. The 31-year-old will begin his new role next week as the team prepares for training camp in Frisco.

Grier recently concluded his playing career after spending the offseason with the Carolina Panthers in an effort to secure a roster spot. He ultimately decided to retire from active play. His appointment allows him to reunite with head coach Brian Schottenheimer and quarterback Dak Prescott, whom he played alongside during previous tenures with the organization.

As a player, Grier entered the league in 2019 after being selected by Carolina in the third round of the draft. Over a seven-year professional career, he appeared for multiple franchises, including the Bengals, Patriots, Chargers, Eagles, and Panthers. His time with Dallas was split between two stints, during which he primarily participated in preseason games and spent time on the practice squad.

Grier was a standout performer at West Virginia University before entering the professional ranks. The Cowboys have now added him to their coaching ranks as they look to build upon their recent offensive performance. He will work directly with the offensive unit as the team heads into the upcoming season.

Details regarding the specific scope of his coaching responsibilities or the duration of his contract were not provided in the announcement. The team is expected to provide further updates as training camp activities commence.

Dallas Cowboys employs about 2,000 people in Frisco, according to local government records.
