Astros Break Open Sixth Inning
The Houston Astros pulled away from the Los Angeles Angels in the sixth inning, scoring four runs to take control of a game they would eventually win 7-4 at Angel Stadium on Thursday, July 30, 2026. The victory improved Houston’s record to 55-55, while Los Angeles dropped to 42-67.
Houston jumped out to an early lead, scoring twice in the top of the first inning. Grissom doubled to left field, bringing Neto and Trout home. Adell followed with a single to left, allowing Grissom to score and extend the Astros’ advantage to 3-0.
The Angels responded in the bottom of the second inning. Diaz homered to left center, a 425-foot shot, cutting the deficit to 3-1. Houston answered in the third inning when Peña homered to center field, a 401-foot blast, making the score 3-2.
The game remained close until the sixth inning, when Houston’s offense erupted. Smith doubled to left, driving in Diaz and Trammell to make it 5-3. Smith then scored on a wild pitch by Angels reliever Mitch Farris, with Spence reaching second on the same wild pitch. A second wild pitch by Farris allowed Smith to score again, pushing the lead to 6-3.
In the seventh inning, Diaz reached on an infield single to first, allowing Altuve to score and extend the lead to 7-3. The Angels added a run in the eighth inning when Adell hit a sacrifice fly to right, allowing Schanuel to score.
The final run came in the ninth inning. Diaz reached on an infield single to third, allowing Walker to score on an error. Diaz advanced to second, and Trammell reached second before advancing to third on a throwing error by Angels third baseman Guzman. The play made the final score 7-4.
