Trammell’s three-run homer carries Astros past Blue Jays, 7-2

Trammell’s swing breaks it open

Trammell provided the decisive blow Wednesday, hitting a three-run homer to right in the bottom of the fifth inning as the Houston Astros beat the Toronto Blue Jays 7-2 at Daikin Park.

The home run, measured at 388 feet, came after Altuve had already put Houston back in front. Alvarez scored on Altuve’s infield single to shortstop, with Walker moving to second, giving the Astros a 3-2 lead. Trammell followed by driving in Walker and Altuve, stretching the lead to 6-2.

Astros answer Toronto’s rally

Houston took the first lead in the fourth inning. Diaz singled to left, scoring Altuve and moving Trammell to second for a 1-0 Astros lead. Smith then singled to left, and Trammell scored on a throwing error by left fielder Sánchez. Smith was safe at second on the error, and Diaz was safe at third.

Toronto tied the game in the fifth. Straw tripled to center, bringing in Giménez to cut the Astros’ lead to 2-1. Straw then scored on a wild pitch by Wesneski, making it 2-2.

Houston responded in the bottom half with four runs. Altuve’s infield single scored Alvarez, and Trammell’s three-run homer gave the Astros control. Altuve added another run-scoring hit in the seventh, singling to center to bring in Walker and make it 7-2.

Wesneski gets the win

Wesneski earned the win for Houston, allowing four hits and two earned runs over six innings. He walked two and struck out four, improving to 2-0.

Bennett Sousa pitched one inning for the Astros, allowing no hits or earned runs, walking none and striking out one. Enyel De Los Santos worked two innings, allowing one hit and no earned runs with no walks and one strikeout.

Chad Dallas took the loss for Toronto, falling to 1-1. He allowed seven hits and six earned runs in three innings, with four walks and three strikeouts. Trey Yesavage allowed no hits and no earned runs over two innings, walking one and striking out none. Braydon Fisher, Brendon Little and Mason Fluharty also pitched for Toronto.

The Astros finished the game with a 59-56 record. The Blue Jays were 53-61 after the loss. Attendance was 30,450.
