Late Inning Surge Decides Contest
The Baltimore Orioles relied on timely production in the extra frames to defeat the Houston Astros 4-2 on Saturday at Daikin Park. The game remained deadlocked through nine innings before Baltimore broke the tie in the 10th and added insurance runs in the 11th. The win improved Baltimore’s record to 48-51, while Houston fell to 47-53.
Scoring Sequence Unfolds
Baltimore took an early lead in the fourth inning when Beavers doubled to right field. The hit drove in Alonso, who crossed the plate to make the score 1-0, while Basallo advanced to third. Houston responded in the seventh inning to tie the game at 1-1. Allen executed a sacrifice bunt to the pitcher, allowing Dezenzo to score and Spence to reach second base.
The contest remained tied at 2-2 after nine innings. In the 10th inning, Jackson sacrificed to first base, enabling Taveras to score and give Baltimore a 2-1 advantage. Spence advanced to second in the play. Later in the same inning, Alvarez hit a ground rule double that allowed Spence to score from second, tying the game at 2-2 while Allen moved to third base.
The decisive action arrived in the 11th inning. O'Neill reached on an infield single to second base, scoring Henderson to put Baltimore ahead 3-2. Ward advanced to second on the play. Shortly after, Taveras singled to right field, driving in Ward to extend the lead to 4-2. O'Neill moved to third base on the hit, capping the scoring for the game.
