Pitching Dominance Defines the Night

Stephen Kolek anchored the Kansas City Royals' victory with a masterful performance on the mound, allowing zero earned runs over 7.1 innings. Kolek, who improved his record to 4-1, kept the Houston Astros' offense in check by limiting them to just five hits and one walk while striking out four batters. He was supported by Steven Cruz, who secured the save with 0.2 scoreless innings of work, and Daniel Lynch IV, who closed out the game with a perfect final frame, recording one strikeout.

Astros Struggle to Find Rhythm

Houston starter Spencer Arrighetti took the loss, falling to 7-2, after allowing four earned runs on eight hits over six innings. Despite striking out seven batters, Arrighetti could not prevent the Royals from building an early lead. Relief pitchers Alimber Santa and Nate Pearson each pitched one inning, combining to allow one hit and two strikeouts without surrendering any additional runs.

Early Offense Sets the Tone

The Royals struck first in the top of the first inning when Garcia singled to left field, bringing Witt Jr. home to make the score 1-0. Houston failed to respond, and Kansas City extended its advantage in the third inning. Caglianone singled to right, scoring Collins to push the lead to 2-0. Two batters later, Garcia doubled to left, driving in both Caglianone and Jensen to increase the margin to 4-0. The Astros were unable to generate any further offense, finishing with zero runs on the day.

Final Result and Records

The game was played at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, with an attendance of 23,730. The Kansas City Royals improved their record to 29-43, while the Houston Astros dropped to 33-40.
