Clement delivers in the 10th

Ernie Clement provided Toronto’s decisive swing with a two-run home run in the 10th inning, lifting the Blue Jays past the Houston Astros 5-4 on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Daikin Park.

With Toronto batting in the top of the 10th, Clement homered to left, a 391-foot drive that also brought in Urías and put the Blue Jays ahead 5-3. Houston responded in the bottom of the inning when Alvarez singled to right and Peña scored.

Alvarez was out trying to stretch the hit to second, and a Houston Astros challenge left the call on the field upheld.

The game included exactly three home runs: Altuve’s shot in the third, Sánchez’s drive in the sixth and Clement’s homer in the 10th. Attendance was 27,751.

Astros build the early lead

Houston scored its first three runs in the third inning. Altuve opened the scoring with a 401-foot home run to left. Walker followed later with a double to left that scored Varsho, and Wade Jr. singled to center to bring in Walker for a 3-0 Astros lead.

Toronto answered in the sixth. Okamoto singled to center to score Straw, cutting the margin to 3-1. Sánchez then homered to right, a 398-foot drive that scored Okamoto and tied the game at 3.

Pitching lines

Jameson Taillon allowed six hits and three earned runs in 4.0 innings for Toronto, with two walks and four strikeouts. Spencer Miles worked 2.0 innings with two hits, no earned runs, no walks and two strikeouts. Mason Fluharty pitched 1.0 inning with no hits, no earned runs, no walks and two strikeouts.

Tyler Rogers had 1.0 inning with one hit, no earned runs and no walks. Louis Varland earned the win, moving to 4-4, after 1.0 inning with no hits, no earned runs, no walks and one strikeout. Chase Lee earned his first save with 1.0 inning, one hit, no earned runs and no walks.

Hunter Brown allowed three hits and three earned runs in 6.0 innings for Houston, walking two and striking out eight. Bennett Sousa took the loss, falling to 0-1, after allowing two hits and one earned run in 1.0 inning.

The final score was Toronto Blue Jays 5, Houston Astros 4. Toronto improved to 54-61, while Houston fell to 59-57.
