Dampier’s Late Surge Decides Tight Contender Matchup
Devon Dampier’s final two runs of the game proved decisive as the No. 10 Utah Utes held off No. 14 Houston 21-13 on Saturday. The home team’s offense, led by Dampier’s dual-threat performance, overcame a third-quarter deficit to maintain their perfect record. The contest featured a back-and-forth scoring sequence that saw Houston take an early lead before Utah closed the game with sustained offensive momentum.
Scoring Sequence Shifts Momentum
The first half was quiet, with Houston’s Jonathan Dimas kicking a 24-yard field goal in the second quarter to give the Cougars a 3-0 lead. The third quarter brought the first touchdowns of the game. Houston’s Makhi Hughes ran for a two-yard score, extending their lead to 10-0.
However, Utah responded immediately. Dampier broke free for a 22-yard touchdown, narrowing the gap to 10-7. Dimas then added a 47-yard field goal to restore Houston’s three-point advantage at 13-7 entering the fourth quarter.
Utah Strikes Back in the Final Frame
