A Decisive Fourth Quarter
The Minnesota Timberwolves secured a 117-107 victory over the Houston Rockets at Toyota Center, driven by a pivotal fourth-quarter surge that broke a tightly contested tie. The game remained deadlocked until late in the final period, with neither team able to establish a sustained lead through three quarters of play.
Minnesota began strong, jumping out to an early 3-0 advantage on LaMelo Ball’s first-quarter three-pointer assisted by Ayo Dosunmu. The Rockets responded immediately, tying the game at 3-3 on Fred VanVleet’s jumper. Houston took its first lead of the night when Kevin Durant hit a 14-foot jumper, but Minnesota quickly reclaimed control.
By the end of the opening quarter, the Timberwolves held a 33-30 edge, fueled by efficient shooting from Bones Hyland and LaMelo Ball.
A Halftime Tie Sets the Stage
The second quarter saw both offenses trade blows. Houston’s Reed Sheppard was active, hitting multiple shots to keep the Rockets within striking distance. Alperen Sengun contributed significantly for Houston, adding key free throws and layups. Despite a strong defensive effort from Minnesota, the teams entered halftime tied at 57-57. Rudy Gobert provided interior presence for the visitors, while Sengun controlled the paint for the hosts.
The third quarter continued the pattern of back-and-forth scoring. Kevin Durant led Houston’s offensive charge, hitting several jumpers and driving to the basket. However, Ayo Dosunmu answered for Minnesota with consistent scoring and playmaking. The Timberwolves’ Jaden McDaniels also added crucial buckets, helping Minnesota maintain parity. As the third quarter concluded, the score remained knotted at 82-82, setting up a dramatic finish.
