Celina High School is preparing for its inaugural season in Class 5A, bringing a mix of established history and new competitive challenges for the Bobcats. Located approximately 12 miles north of Frisco, the one-horse town lacks a traditional, built-in rival similar to those found in larger Collin County districts like Frisco, McKinney, or Plano. While Gunter sits just seven miles away on Highway 289, the two schools did not meet in football until 2024, ending a 25-year gap. Instead, recent competitive bonds have formed through district play against programs such as Aubrey and Frisco Panther Creek.

The move to the second-largest UIL classification places Celina in a new competitive tier. For the next two school years, the football team will compete in 4-5A Division II alongside Anna, Denison, Prosper Richland, and five Frisco ISD schools. In most other sports, the Bobcats join a 9-5A district that includes Anna, Denison, Greenville, Lovejoy, McKinney North, Melissa, Nevada Community, and Sherman.

Football fans will see an immediate return to a historic gridiron battle with Anna. The Bobcats have traditionally dominated the series, including six district wins by an average margin of 40.7 points during the 2010s. However, Anna has risen in recent years under head coach Seth Parr, notably defeating Celina twice in 2022, including in the Class 4A Division I regional semifinals. The rivalry produced a quadruple-overtime thriller in 2023, which Celina won 42-40. Anna has since moved to 5A and has reached the playoffs in both seasons, emerging as a potential frontrunner for the 4-5A Division II title this fall.

On the volleyball court, the Lady Bobcats look to sustain their success after qualifying for the state tournament three times in the past five seasons, highlighted by a runner-up finish in 2021. They will now face McKinney North, a program that has seen significant growth. The Lady Bulldogs have recorded at least 20 wins in seven consecutive seasons and were state runners-up in 2024. Both teams are expected to return key players from their regional finals appearances last season and are projected to be major factors in the 9-5A playoff picture.

In girls soccer, Celina enters 5A as the only program to win five consecutive state championships, boasting a 138-4-4 record over that span. The Lady Bobcats will now share the 9-5A district with Lovejoy, the Lady Leopards, who went 26-1 last season and reached the regional finals for the second straight year. With perennial powerhouse Frisco Wakeland now in 6A, Celina and Lovejoy are positioned to compete for the Region II title in the Class 5A Division II bracket.

Baseball also features a renewed rivalry with Melissa. The Bobcats have maintained consistency on the diamond under their current coaching staff, setting the stage for continued competition within the new district alignment. Further details regarding specific schedules and upcoming matchups remain not yet clear.
