Jeff Metcalf, whose 17-year-old son Austin was fatally stabbed by Karmelo Anthony at a track meet in April 2025, has publicly condemned former Frisco Independent School District superintendent Mike Waldrip. Anthony was convicted of murder and sentenced to 35 years in prison for the killing.
Metcalf told Fox News Digital that the district failed to manage the situation properly, specifically criticizing Waldrip for permitting Anthony to receive a high school diploma. He argued that the school handbook should have mandated expulsion for murder and noted that Anthony never returned to classes after the April 2 incident, which he claims should have prevented graduation based on attendance rules.
The grieving father also alleged that the district lacked adequate security measures at the track meet, such as metal detectors, describing the oversight as negligence. Waldrip, who served as superintendent during the time of the murder, retired in November 2025. It is not yet clear if Waldrip or the district has responded to these specific accusations.
