Avelo Airlines has announced plans to launch commercial service at McKinney National Airport, with the first flights scheduled to depart on November 11. The carrier will operate nonstop routes to Las Vegas, Nevada, as well as four destinations in Florida: Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Orlando, and Tampa. McKinney is located approximately 12 miles east of Frisco.
The airline, which describes itself as offering everyday low fares, stated that introductory one-way tickets will start at $99. Passengers who complete their bookings through Avelo Airlines before August will receive their first checked bag at no additional cost. The company also noted that the new operation is expected to generate more than 100 new jobs.
Andrew Levy, the founder and chief executive officer of Avelo Airlines, described the launch as a significant moment for the carrier. He highlighted the airline's focus on affordable pricing, the convenience of the McKinney facility, and its record for on-time performance as key benefits for travelers.
Local officials expressed support for the new service. McKinney Mayor Bill Cox welcomed the airline and thanked Avelo for its confidence in the regional market and its investment in the airport. Ken Carley, the director of McKinney National Airport, noted that the new flights offer residents a way to save time and money by flying from a local facility.
Avelo Airlines entered the commercial aviation market in 2021, marking its arrival as the first new commercial airline in the United States in 15 years. The carrier currently provides service to 37 destinations across 15 states, along with two locations in Puerto Rico. McKinney National Airport has been in operation since 1979.
