Mark Hill secured the mayoral office in Frisco after defeating Rod Vilhauer with 58 percent of the vote in a recent runoff. The victory marks the first change in the city’s top leadership in nine years. Hill stated that his central campaign message of bringing residents together resonated with voters who felt the community needed a more cohesive voice.
The election followed a period of intense debate at city council meetings, where attendees raised concerns regarding visa fraud allegations, criticism of Sharia law, and tensions involving local Indian and Muslim communities. Hill acknowledged that the city must work to heal from these divisions, noting that such political friction does not resolve quickly.
Upon taking office on July 7, Hill plans to maintain Frisco’s low property tax rates by continuing efforts to attract new commercial development. He also emphasized the urgent need for road improvements and affordable single-family housing to support the city’s expanding population of over 245,000 residents. Hill observed that rapid growth has created significant challenges for safety and infrastructure that must be managed alongside economic success.
