The City of Frisco has initiated a complimentary pilot transportation program to move people through the historic downtown Rail District. Named the Rail District Boxcar, the service honors the region’s railroad history and is currently active, according to a city notice from June 12. Two vans handle the route, with capacities of six and twelve passengers respectively. The path covers 13 stops, stretching from World Cup Way in the west to North County in the east, following Main and Elm Streets and stopping at Frisco Square and City Hall.
Brian Moen, assistant director of Engineering Services, linked the initiative to downtown revitalization efforts that removed on-street parking to widen sidewalks and enhance walkability. He stated the shuttle aims to provide convenient access to downtown merchants for residents and visitors. The Boxcar runs Friday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. This launch follows the May debut of GoZone, an on-demand ride-share partnership between Frisco and the Denton County Transportation Authority.
