The Texas Rangers are preparing to promote top pitching prospect Caden Scarborough to High-A Frisco following his effective performance with High-A Hub City. The 21-year-old has compiled a 2.79 earned run average across six starts with the ACL Rangers and Hub City, striking out 26 batters while issuing just six walks in 19.1 innings. Opposing hitters are batting .235 against him, and he has surrendered only one home run.
Scarborough’s season began late after he underwent surgery for malignant melanoma on his neck during spring training. This health issue delayed his debut until May, resulting in an 0-4 win-loss record. However, his underlying metrics remain strong, mirroring his previous season where he posted a 2.45 ERA and 114 strikeouts in 88 innings despite a 2-5 record.
The organization views Scarborough as a critical piece of their pitching depth. This need intensified after the Rangers traded away three top left-handed prospects, including Kohl Drake, Mitch Bratt, and David Hagaman, to acquire Merrill Kelly. Scarborough’s development is now a priority as he attempts to fill that void. His promotion timeline is not yet clear.
