The City of Frisco has confirmed that one mosquito pool tested positive for West Nile virus this week. In response to this finding, the city’s third-party contractor will begin ground spraying overnight to mitigate the risk of disease transmission.

Spraying is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, and continue until 5 a.m. on Sunday morning. A second round of spraying will occur on Sunday night, June 28, also ending at 5 a.m. on Monday morning. These operations are contingent on weather and wind conditions permitting.

The spraying will target specific areas within the following neighborhoods: Frisco Avalon, Frisco Avalon North, Frisco Springs, and Meadow Hill Estates. Residents can view the affected areas on a map available as a PDF on the city website. This detection marks the third positive mosquito pool for West Nile virus in Frisco this year. However, no human cases of West Nile virus have been confirmed in the city in 2026.

Residents are urged to follow precautionary steps promoted by the Texas Department of State Health Services to prevent mosquito bites. These steps include wearing long sleeves and pants during dawn and dusk, applying insect repellents containing DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus, and removing standing water from bird baths, French drains, clogged gutters, and saucers under potted plants.

Frisco tests for mosquito pools from May 1 through November 15 in accordance with its Mosquito Surveillance and Response Plan. Residents can check the GIS Mosquito Dashboard for locations and positive pools from previous years.
