The City of Frisco has confirmed that two mosquito pools tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV) this week. In response, the city’s third-party contractor will conduct overnight ground spraying in designated neighborhoods starting Saturday, August 22, and continuing through Sunday, August 23.
Spraying is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. on Saturday and end at 5 a.m. on Sunday. The same schedule applies for Sunday night, with operations ending at 5 a.m. on Monday.
Weather and wind conditions permitting, the treatment will target the Starwood neighborhood and several areas within Stonebriar, including Stonebriar Village, Creekside at Stonebriar, Stonebriar Creek Estates, the Chase at Stonebriar, and the Villages of Stonebriar Park. Maps for these specific zones are available on the city’s website.
This marks the ninth positive mosquito pool detected in Frisco this year. The city notes that no human cases of WNV have been confirmed in Frisco in 2026. Residents are advised to consult the city’s GIS Mosquito Dashboard for locations of positive pools from previous years.
The Texas Department of State Health Services recommends that residents follow the “Wear, Apply and Remove” protocol to prevent mosquito bites. This includes wearing long sleeves and pants during dawn and dusk, applying insect repellent containing DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus, and removing standing water from bird baths, gutters, and plant saucers. Mosquitoes that carry WNV breed in stagnant water.
Frisco tests mosquito pools from May 1 through November 15 as part of its Mosquito Surveillance and Response Plan. Additional information is available at FriscoTexas.gov/Mosquitoes or by contacting the Health & Food Safety Division at 972-292-5304.
