Hawks erase early deficit to beat Spurs 123-116 in preseason

Spurs build a big early lead

San Antonio opened its preseason schedule at Frost Bank Center on Thursday, Oct. 8, by racing to a 39-20 lead over the Atlanta Hawks after the first quarter. The Hawks scored 42 points in the second period to get within 69-62 by halftime.

Atlanta finishes stronger

The Hawks won the third quarter 31-26 and the fourth 30-21, outscoring the Spurs 61-47 over the final 24 minutes to take a 123-116 exhibition win in front of 18,354 fans.

Leaders

For the Spurs, Dylan Harper scored 16 points, hitting five of his seven shots, and handed out four assists. Stephon Castle and David Jones Garcia chipped in 14 points apiece, and Keldon Johnson led the team with seven rebounds.

Atlanta's Asa Newell also scored 16. Kingston Flemings had 15 points and five assists, and Dyson Daniels posted 13 points and 11 rebounds, with CJ McCollum adding 13 points.

Because the game was preseason, the result does not count in the standings. ESPN lists the Spurs at 0-1 and the Hawks at 1-1 in exhibition play.
