The Dallas Cowboys could be without four defensive players when they face the Baltimore Ravens in Rio de Janeiro on Sept. 27, while owner Jerry Jones has indicated he would consider spending to improve the roster.
Cornerback Cobie Durant and safety PJ Locke are expected to miss multiple weeks. Durant is dealing with a hamstring strain, and Locke tore the plantar fascia in his foot. Coach Brian Schottenheimer said the team has not determined whether either player will be placed on injured reserve.
Linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, who has a hamstring strain, and safety Malik Hooker, who has a broken forearm, have not been cleared to return after missing Dallas' game against Washington. Schottenheimer said their status could be difficult to determine during the shorter week, with the first official injury report due Sept. 23.
The coach said Dallas would rely on other players if the four defenders are unavailable. He also said the team used linebacker elevations effectively against Washington and could make adjustments in the secondary. Linebackers Jaishawn Barham and Dee Winters, who have dealt with a stinger and shoulder issue, respectively, are doing well and might not appear on the injury report.
Jones first told reporters after the Washington victory, "There is nothing more dangerous than an old man with money." During an appearance on 105.3 The Fan, he confirmed that the remark was connected to possible football-related additions and said he was willing to spend to strengthen a team he views optimistically.
