Jacob Fields, a former safety for TCU, has been charged with aggravated assault by the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office following an incident that occurred on August 13. The charge was officially filed on September 23, alleging that Fields intentionally or recklessly caused serious bodily injury to teammate Dozie Ezukanma.
The complaint states that Fields struck Ezukanma in the head and may have kicked him while he was on the ground. Ezukanma reportedly sustained a concussion and was hospitalized for three days due to a brain bleed resulting from the incident. Witnesses indicated that Fields hit Ezukanma from behind, leading to Ezukanma losing consciousness.
After the altercation, Fields surrendered to authorities on August 30 and was dismissed from the TCU football team on August 18. He later reached out to Ezukanma via text message to apologize for his actions. Reports suggest that the incident was fueled by Fields' frustration over his practice performance.
Fields' agent, Philip Miller, issued a statement in support of him, highlighting the importance of self-defense. Further details about the incident have not been disclosed.
