TCU's quarterback situation is under greater scrutiny after a 21-13 loss at Central Florida left the Horned Frogs 2-2 and 0-2 against Power Four opponents. The defeat was the Big 12 opener for both teams. TCU committed 11 penalties totaling 86 yards, had two fewer turnovers than UCF and produced only 1.2 yards per rushing attempt.
Jaden Craig, a Harvard transfer, is still listed above sophomore Adam Schobel. Craig has completed 45 passes on 72 attempts for 485 yards in games against North Carolina and UCF, with two interceptions and no touchdown throws. He also has minus-38 yards on 10 rushing attempts in those contests, with sacks included in college rushing totals.
Schobel did not appear as a freshman in 2025 and has attempted one pass this season.
The decision could involve finances as well as performance because the report said Craig joined TCU on a larger compensation package than Schobel. Craig could start against No. 9 BYU on Oct. 3, while Schobel's first start could come at Baylor on Oct. 17 after the bye week.
TCU had hoped to open 4-0 and bring ESPN's "College GameDay" to Fort Worth, but is averaging 11.5 points per game. Coach Sonny Dykes previously turned to Max Duggan in 2022 and Josh Hoover in 2023 after injuries to Chandler Morris.
