Baylor defensive tackle Devonte Tezino will miss the remainder of the season after sustaining a leg injury in the Bears’ victory over Prairie View A&M. His absence removes an interior defender who coach Dave Aranda identified as one of the team’s top performers at that position after the season opener.
Tezino had made an early impact for Baylor, recording two sacks against Auburn. Aranda said the team would miss the work Tezino had put into reaching that level of play.
The injury is expected to create larger responsibilities for Baylor’s remaining defensive linemen. Aranda highlighted Braylen Jackson, who has contributed against the run and could receive more opportunities. Aranda described Jackson as a physical player whose run defense gives the team confidence.
Baylor entered the season with its defensive line viewed as a major strength, and Tezino’s injury will test the group’s depth through the rest of the schedule. The Bears had also lost senior safety and defensive leader Jacob Redding to a torn ACL before the season opener against Auburn.
