The Dallas Cowboys have added running back Tyler Goodson to their backfield plans after waiving Israel Abanikanda, keeping Goodson on the practice squad. The move followed the release of 2025 draft picks Phil Mafah and Jaydon Blue near the end of training camp.
Atlanta Falcons running back Bijan Robinson discussed Goodson in an interview with Blogging The Boys’ RJ Ochoa. Robinson said Goodson is an elite player who can make cuts across the field, contribute as a receiver and handle multiple offensive roles. Robinson also said he wished Goodson had remained with Atlanta.
Goodson spent training camp with the Falcons and led the team during the preseason with 92 rushing yards. He also scored on a 49-yard touchdown run. During his first three NFL seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, Goodson recorded 264 yards and one touchdown on 54 carries, along with 19 catches for 103 yards and another touchdown.
Dallas is adding depth after an injury to Malik Davis. Goodson’s speed and receiving ability give the Cowboys another option in the backfield, although the source said his chances of playing appear limited. The team is keeping him as roster insurance.
The Cowboys are preparing for Week 2 against the Washington Commanders after losing their opener to the New York Giants. Dallas ran for fewer than 100 yards in that game, with Javonte Williams finishing with 41 yards.
