The 2026 college football season will kick off with a matchup between the TCU Horned Frogs and the North Carolina Tar Heels in Dublin, Ireland. Scheduled for noon EDT at Aviva Stadium, this game is part of an eight-game Week 0 lineup and will be broadcast on ESPN.

The Horned Frogs, favored by 9.5 points, have recorded a consistent 9-4 in the last two seasons, finishing both with bowl victories. Under the leadership of Sonny Dykes, TCU has achieved a 36-17 overall record during his tenure, which includes a notable appearance in the national championship game during his first season.

Conversely, the Tar Heels, coached by Bill Belichick, are looking to bounce back from a challenging 4-8 record in the previous season. Belichick pointed out the uncertainties both teams will face as they prepare for the opener, stating that the real challenges will only reveal themselves during the game.

In addition to the TCU-North Carolina clash, the opening weekend will feature other significant matchups, including USC hosting San Jose State and N.C. State facing Virginia. Most FBS teams will begin their seasons the following week, with numerous games scheduled through September 7.
