The Dallas Cowboys have finalized a trade that will send offensive tackle Nate Thomas to the Houston Texans in exchange for a seventh-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.
Nate Thomas, 25, was originally selected by the Cowboys in the seventh round of the 2024 draft from Louisiana. After spending his rookie season on injured reserve, he participated in all 17 games during the 2025 season, starting four of those games. While primarily playing as a left tackle, he has also been utilized as a swing tackle throughout his career.
During the offseason, Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer indicated that Thomas and teammate Tyler Guyton would compete for the starting left tackle position. However, as training camp progressed, Schottenheimer noted that Guyton would remain with the first-team offense due to a desire for more consistent performance from Thomas.
The Cowboys have also bolstered their offensive line by acquiring Broderick Jones from the Pittsburgh Steelers, who can play both left and right tackle. Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones mentioned that the team has a strategy for managing their offensive tackle situation as they approach the roster cutdown deadline.
