Head coach Brian Schottenheimer expressed his enthusiasm about Milton's presence, stating he is "elated" to have him back, according to The Athletic's Jon Machota.
Milton, who was drafted in the sixth round by the New England Patriots in 2024, showcased his strong arm during the preseason. Although he played in only one regular-season game with the Patriots, his potential caught the attention of fans and coaches.
In April 2025, he was traded to the Cowboys, where he participated in four games without a start, gaining valuable experience as a young quarterback.
Despite being waived at the end of August, Milton opted to return to the Cowboys' practice squad, indicating his satisfaction with the team's direction. Schottenheimer and the coaching staff are pleased with Milton's decision to stay, believing he will continue to improve.
