The Dallas Cowboys have re-signed quarterback Joe Milton III to their practice squad after initially releasing him to create space for running back Emari Demercado. Milton, who was not claimed by any team during the waiver process, opted to return to the Cowboys despite interest from other teams for their practice squads.
Dak Prescott, the team's star quarterback, expressed his excitement over Milton's return, highlighting the positive impact he has on the quarterback room and the team overall. Prescott noted Milton's growth during the offseason and emphasized the importance of supporting him as he navigates his feelings about losing the QB2 position, which he held throughout the 2025 season.
"It means a lot. Just me, personally, I thought he would’ve been picked up in the waivers or whatever it is. Fortunate for us, we got a hell of a player back and a guy that makes our room better," Prescott said. He acknowledged that Milton is likely frustrated but stressed the need for him to use that motivation to continue improving.
Milton, originally a sixth-round pick by the New England Patriots in 2024, was traded to the Cowboys ahead of the 2025 season. His preseason performance showed significant improvement, completing 29 of 43 passes for 378 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions.
This marked a notable increase in consistency compared to his previous season, where he played in four games with a completion rate of 62.5% and threw for one touchdown alongside two interceptions.
