Houston has expanded the 2026 playtime incentives in Trent Brown’s contract, raising the maximum available under the package from $1.5 million to $2.5 million. The updated terms were detailed Sept. 16 by Spotrac’s Michael Ginnitti in a post on X.
Brown’s revised deal includes $500,000 bonuses tied to reaching five playing-time thresholds: 50%, 55%, 60%, 65% and 70%. Over The Cap’s Troy Chapman previously reported that the change did not affect Brown’s salary-cap charge or his initial cash flow, and that the additional incentives were placed on top of the original package.
The Texans re-signed Brown during the 2026 offseason on a one-year contract worth $5.5 million. He started seven regular-season games and one playoff game for Houston in 2025, with injuries affecting both the beginning and end of his season.
The team later signed Braden Smith to a two-year, $20 million contract, but Smith went on injured reserve after dealing with injuries and did not take the starting job.
Brown remained with the team through the offseason program and started at right tackle in Week 1. He has not started every regular-season game in a season since 2022, when he was with the New England Patriots. Brown won a Super Bowl with New England in 2018, during the period when Texans general manager Nick Caserio worked there as an executive.
Pro Football Focus rated Brown as Houston’s sixth-best pass blocker in Week 1 and its third-highest-rated offensive lineman in that category, behind left tackle Aireontae Ersery and center Evan Brown. Brown, a 2015 seventh-round selection by the San Francisco 49ers, has also played for the Cincinnati Bengals and Las Vegas Raiders.
