Baylor University quarterback DJ Lagway is currently considered day-to-day due to an ankle injury, as confirmed by head coach Dave Aranda. The team's decision regarding Lagway's availability for the upcoming game against Prairie View A&M on Saturday will depend on his performance during practice this week.

In his first game with Baylor, Lagway completed 27 of 54 passes for 333 yards, achieving two touchdowns but also throwing one interception in a narrow 17-16 defeat to Auburn. The Bears were unable to convert a crucial two-point attempt at the end of the game, which contributed to their loss.

Auburn head coach Alex Golesh praised Lagway's resilience, noting his ability to continue playing despite his injury. Golesh remarked on Lagway's toughness, stating, "If you’ve got any question on how tough that kid is... he got banged up early, and that is a tough, tough football player."

Lagway, who transferred to Baylor after two seasons with the Florida Gators, was highly regarded as the No. 3 ranked player in his recruiting class. He initially started for Florida under head coach Billy Napier but entered the transfer portal following Napier's dismissal.

During his time at Florida, Lagway had a mixed performance, finishing last season with 2,264 passing yards, 16 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions, while the Gators ended with a 4-8 record. His struggles included a notable game where he threw five interceptions against LSU.

Former Florida quarterback Tim Tebow commented on Lagway's situation, suggesting that he needed a fresh start and that the pressure in Gainesville was overwhelming. Tebow expressed optimism about Lagway's potential success at Baylor, stating, "I think he’ll play with a lot more joy, and I think when he does that, I think he’ll have an opportunity to play to the best of his ability."

Further details regarding Lagway's injury and status for the upcoming game have not yet been provided.
