The Houston Cougars have bolstered their defense by signing Myles Rowser, a safety previously with the Arizona State Sun Devils. This acquisition follows new NCAA eligibility rules allowing players from the class of 2022, who did not redshirt or sign a professional NFL contract, to gain an additional season of eligibility.
Rowser did not redshirt during his freshman year and played in nine games for the Campbell Camels. He attended a rookie minicamp with the Seattle Seahawks but did not sign a professional contract. His collegiate career includes stints at Campbell in 2022, New Mexico State in 2023, and Arizona State from 2024 to 2025.
Throughout his career, Rowser has recorded 295 total tackles, including 8.5 tackles for loss, one sack, two interceptions, 16 passes defended, a forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries. In the 2025 season, he played in every game for Arizona State, achieving a career-high 84 tackles, four tackles for loss, three passes defended, and a fumble recovery.
His performance earned him a spot on the All-Big 12 Third Team.
The Cougars' safety position is already strong, featuring veterans Kentrell Webb and Jordan Allen, who contributed 71 and 48 tackles respectively last season. Additionally, they have added Tulane safety Javion White, who made 50 tackles last year. With Rowser's arrival, the Cougars may consider adjusting their lineup, potentially moving one of their safeties to the nickel corner position.
