The Houston Texans have received positive news regarding wide receiver Tank Dell's recovery from a serious knee injury, but general manager Nick Caserio emphasized that the team is not rushing his return.

Dell, who is currently on Reserve/Injured with a designation to return, will miss at least the first four games of the regular season as he continues to recover from a dislocated kneecap and multiple ligament tears sustained in December 2024.

Caserio noted that while Dell is closer to returning than he was at the start of training camp, he still needs to regain his top-end speed, which is crucial for his playing style. Dell has shown improvement in his quickness and route-running abilities, but the Texans are focused on ensuring he can perform at the high speeds required for success in the NFL.

Dell's injury, which sidelined him for the entire 2025 season, involved significant rehabilitation, and the Texans are cautious about his readiness. Caserio highlighted that being "close" does not equate to being ready for game action, and the team is prioritizing Dell's full recovery over immediate needs at the wide receiver position.

Before his injury, Dell had established himself as a key player for quarterback C.J. Stroud, recording 98 receptions for 1,376 yards and 10 touchdowns in his first two seasons. His ability to stretch the field and create space for other receivers is something the Texans are keen to restore as they navigate the early part of the season without him.

With Dell's absence, other receivers, including Boutte and Noel, will have the opportunity to step up and build chemistry with Stroud. This period will also allow the Texans to assess what their offense lacks in Dell's absence, providing valuable insights as they move forward.

Caserio stated that the focus is on Dell's ability to reach his previous performance levels rather than adhering to a specific return date.

As the Texans prepare for the upcoming games, the timeline for Dell's return remains uncertain, with the team prioritizing his health and performance over an immediate comeback. The emphasis will be on ensuring he can regain the explosive speed that makes him a dynamic player in their offense.
