Florida State will take its 1-1 record to No. 10 Alabama on Saturday after coach Mike Norvell said the Seminoles remain confident despite the loss to SMU. Norvell said the team plans to use lessons from that game in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
The program is also continuing under interim athletic director Bruce Warwick after Michael Alford was fired. Norvell praised Alford and his wife, Laura, for their work, and called Warwick an experienced professional. Players were off Monday, and Norvell planned to address the leadership change with them Tuesday.
Florida State’s defense and special teams could have opportunities for other players because freshman linebackers Izayia Williams and Daylen Green are out for the rest of the season. Veteran linebacker Blake Nichelson is expected back during the year, but his absence will last an extended period. Norvell said quarterback Ashton Daniels had a strong week in practice and focused on controllable areas.
Norvell described Alabama’s defense as fast and explosive, with a larger front than last season. He said Florida State must win individual matchups, maintain offensive balance and create big plays.
