The Houston Texans have made a significant roster move by trading for wide receiver Kayshon Boutte from the New England Patriots. In exchange, the Texans sent safety Jaylen Reed and a seventh-round pick in the 2028 NFL Draft to New England.

Boutte, who was a sixth-round selection in the 2023 NFL Draft, will continue to wear blue as he joins the Texans, who are looking to reclaim the AFC South title from the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The need for this trade arose after Texans wide receiver Jayden Higgins suffered a torn ACL during a joint practice with the Raiders on August 19, which sidelined him for the season.

After a promising rookie season where Higgins caught 41 passes for 525 yards and six touchdowns, he will now focus on recovery, prompting the Texans to seek additional depth behind Pro Bowler Nico Collins.

During his time with the Patriots, Boutte played in 29 games over the past two seasons, accumulating over 500 receiving yards in each year. He contributed significantly to the team, catching three touchdown passes in 2024 and six in 2025, helping the Patriots secure the AFC title and reach Super Bowl 60.

However, his role diminished this offseason as the Patriots acquired AJ Brown from the Eagles and signed former Packers receiver Romeo Doubs.

The trade comes amid ongoing discussions about Texans quarterback CJ Stroud, who faced scrutiny following a challenging playoff performance. Despite Stroud's struggles, the Texans have expressed confidence in his potential as their franchise quarterback, although market analysts have placed him lower in predictions for leading the league in passing touchdowns this season.

Further details regarding the trade and its implications for the Texans’ season have not yet been clarified.
