TCU safety Jacob Fields has been removed from the football roster following a physical incident in the locker room. This decision comes shortly before the team's season opener against North Carolina. The altercation, reported to have occurred on August 13, has been classified as aggravated assault according to the TCU crime and fire log.
Reports indicate that Fields was engaged in a confrontation with an offensive teammate and had previously experienced hostility from his peers, including insults and threats. He had attempted to communicate his concerns to the coaching staff on several occasions but did not receive any feedback.
Fields transferred to TCU from Louisiana Tech this offseason and was anticipated to be the starting free safety for the Horned Frogs. In 2025, he earned recognition as the Co-Defensive Player of the Year in Conference USA, having started all 12 games for Louisiana Tech.
He led the team with 92 tackles, achieved three interceptions—two of which were returned for touchdowns—and also recorded 2.5 tackles for loss along with five pass breakups. Further information regarding the incident and its consequences has not yet been disclosed.
