Caden Powell, a Waco native and former Baylor basketball player, is officially returning to the team for the 2026-27 season following a recent court injunction in Ohio. Powell, who previously played for Wyoming and Rice, joined Baylor last season and was initially expected to serve as a backup center. However, due to injuries within the team, he ended the season as a starter.
This year's Baylor squad is notably different, with head coach Scott Drew and his staff focusing on building a deeper roster capable of enduring a full season and competing through March. Powell's unexpected availability has been a significant boost, completing the team's depth chart.
While it is not anticipated that Powell will immediately secure a starting position, he is expected to play a crucial role off the bench. His defensive capabilities and ability to serve as a lob threat will be valuable assets for the Bears.
The projected depth chart for Baylor includes:
Guards Starters: Kayden Mingo (So.), Dylan Mingo (Fr.) Rotation: Isaac Williams IV (Jr.), Brett Decker Jr. (Jr.), Andre Iguodala Jr. (RS-Fr.) Depth/RS: Drew Perry (So.), James Goodis (Sr.)
Wings/Forwards Starters: Isaac Celiscar (Jr.), Evan Chatman (Sr.) Rotation: Elijah Williams (Fr.), Maikcol Perez (So.), Andre Iguodala Jr. (RS-Fr.)
