The Dallas Cowboys are experiencing a marked improvement in their defensive performance, according to star defensive tackle Quinnen Williams. Speaking on Wednesday, Williams described the team's growth as 'night and day' compared to the previous season, attributing this change to the new coaching staff and the team's rigorous training regimen.
Under former defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, the Cowboys struggled in 2025, ranking last in the NFL for opponent passing yards and points allowed. The team also finished 30th in total yards allowed and tied for 22nd in sacks. In contrast, the Cowboys enjoyed a more successful defensive performance in previous years under Dan Quinn, who left the team to coach the Washington Commanders.
With the hiring of Christian Parker as the new defensive coordinator, the Cowboys have seen a shift in mindset and strategy. Williams noted that the team's daily practices against a strong offense have significantly contributed to their defensive development.
"It's been amazing — from where we started off in OTAs to where we are at now," he stated, while acknowledging that there are still areas needing refinement.
In August, the Cowboys secured Williams with a three-year, $105.9 million contract extension, making him one of the highest-paid interior defensive linemen in the league. Last season, he recorded 2.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, one interception, and 53 combined tackles across 15 games, earning an impressive overall grade from Pro Football Focus.
