The Houston Texans' offense has been a focal point during the offseason, particularly with starting quarterback C.J. Stroud drawing significant attention. However, concerns have arisen regarding the wide receiver group, specifically about Tank Dell's readiness to join the starting lineup.

Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports that Dell is not expected to be prepared for the team's first game. He began participating in practice during the second week of training camp, but his involvement has been limited to individual drills and a few team exercises. Recently, Dell has not practiced in front of the media, raising further doubts about his availability.

Despite two league sources indicating that Dell has not experienced a setback, he is not yet able to practice consistently. It appears unlikely that he will play in the Texans' final preseason game, and with only three weeks remaining before the season opener on September 13, his readiness is in question.

This situation may lead the Texans to keep seven wide receivers on their 53-man roster as they await Dell's full return.

With Dell's status uncertain, the team is also dealing with the implications of Jayden Higgins' ACL injury, which has disrupted plans for the No. 2 wide receiver position opposite Nico Collins. Candidates such as Xavier Hutchinson, who showed improvement last season, and Jaylin Noel, known for his playmaking ability, are now in contention to fill that role.

While there is hope that Dell can regain his explosive playmaking ability, it remains unclear when he will be able to return to the field and perform at his previous level. Until he can participate in a complete regular season game, the Texans cannot rely on him.

Although a healthy Dell would benefit the team's aspirations this season, his absence may not hinder their overall goals. Dell aims to return to the starting lineup in 2026.
