TCU is on the hunt for a new quarterback after Josh Hoover's surprising transfer to Indiana, the current national champions. This move follows a season where TCU ended with an 8-4 record, which had initially sparked hopes for a strong push toward the Big 12 championship and a potential NFL draft opportunity.
Before Hoover's decision, TCU's personnel team had already started evaluating quarterback prospects, not foreseeing his departure. General manager Ryan Dorchester expressed that Hoover was viewed as an essential player for the next season, and there was no anticipation of him leaving Fort Worth. However, they had begun scouting quarterbacks as a precautionary measure in case he chose to enter the NFL draft.
The Horned Frogs are specifically seeking an upperclassman with one year of eligibility left, as they consider high school signee Adam Schobel their long-term solution at quarterback. Following the confirmation of Hoover's transfer, TCU swiftly signed Jaden Craig, a former zero-star recruit who had performed well at Harvard for two seasons.
Dorchester first identified Craig while reviewing footage of a former Harvard receiver, noting Craig's efficiency, decisiveness, and strong arm.
Despite Hoover's commendable performance throughout the season, he did not generate substantial interest from NFL scouts, which led TCU's coaching staff to believe he would remain with the team. However, head coach Sonny Dykes noticed a shift in Hoover's mindset as the season concluded, suggesting a transfer could be on the horizon.
