The Houston Texans have acquired wide receiver Kayshon Boutte from the New England Patriots. Boutte confirmed the trade on social media before either team made an official announcement. Reports indicate that Houston sent safety Jaylen Reed and a seventh-round draft pick for 2028 to New England in exchange for Boutte.
This trade comes in the wake of an injury to Texans' wide receiver Jayden Higgins, who suffered a torn ACL during a joint practice with the Las Vegas Raiders. Higgins was expected to be a key player alongside star receiver Nico Collins. Last season, he recorded 41 receptions for 525 yards and six touchdowns as a rookie.
Kayshon Boutte, a sixth-round selection in the 2023 NFL Draft, had a productive season last year, making 33 catches for 551 yards and scoring six touchdowns. The Patriots had a surplus of wide receivers after trading for A.J. Brown in June and signing Romeo Doubs to a four-year, $68 million contract in March.
In addition to Boutte, the Texans also signed veteran receivers Zay Jones and Sterling Shepard over the weekend as they work to fill the void left by Higgins' injury. Further details about the Texans' plans for the upcoming season are not yet clear.
