The departure of veteran running back Dare Ogunbowale, who was a captain last season, has led to this adjustment. Ogunbowale is currently a free agent after being released by the Las Vegas Raiders. His absence means that wide receiver Nico Collins, who also served as a captain last year, is the only player from that group not returning in a leadership role.
Head coach DeMeco Ryans emphasized the importance of leadership within the team, reflecting the strong culture he has fostered since taking the helm in 2023. The Texans have focused on bringing in players known for their leadership qualities, including safety Reed Blankenship, who was signed from the Philadelphia Eagles, and several draft picks who were team captains in college.
Each of the four captains has at least three years of experience with the Texans, with Pitre being the longest-tenured player, entering his fifth season with the team. Their selection as captains highlights their impact and presence in the locker room as the team prepares for the upcoming season.
