The Houston Texans have finalized their roster at 53 players as they prepare for the upcoming season opener against the Buffalo Bills. This decision has clarified several aspects of the team's composition, but it has also raised new questions regarding the roster's construction.
One significant question is whether the Texans will sign another quarterback to their practice squad. Currently, the team has only two quarterbacks—C.J. Stroud and Davis Mills—on the active roster.
Veteran Brett Rypien was released during the cutdown process, leaving the Texans with limited options. However, there are several veteran quarterbacks available on the market, such as Bailey Zappe and Nick Mullins, which could lead to changes in this position group in the coming weeks.
Another area of uncertainty involves the tight end position. The Texans have five tight ends on their roster, including Brevin Jordan, who was brought back after the cuts. While this depth offers various skill sets, it raises the question of who will be inactive on gameday. Jordan, who is currently dealing with a leg injury, is a likely candidate to be inactive for Week 1.
Additionally, the Texans will have to navigate the absence of two key offensive players, wide receiver Tank Dell and offensive tackle Braden Smith, both of whom have been placed on injured reserve. This move will keep them sidelined for at least four games, with the possibility of extending their absence if they are not cleared within the 21-day practice window.
