The Houston Texans received positive news regarding offensive tackle Braden Smith, who is expected to miss only a few weeks due to a plantar fascia injury in his foot. This update follows an injury scare during a joint practice with the Carolina Panthers, as reported by KPRC 2's Aaron Wilson on August 27.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport confirmed that while Smith's injury is a concern, it is not classified as severe and should not result in a long-term absence. Sleeper's Jacob Barzilla also noted that the Texans will likely need Smith at some point during the season.
Smith was signed by the Texans during the offseason to a two-year contract worth $20 million, with the expectation that he would take over the starting right tackle position. However, his injury adds to the uncertainty surrounding the team's offensive line.
ESPN's Adam Schefter indicated that Smith might be sidelined for a few weeks, which is preferable to more serious alternatives. The Texans may not need to rush Smith back, as Trent Brown, a former Pro Bowl player, is currently starting at right tackle, and the team is satisfied with the progress of Blake Fisher, who has shown promise this preseason.
