The Houston Texans are adding Dare Ogunbowale to their 53-man roster before Week 4, bringing the running back back after a short stay with the Las Vegas Raiders. His return gives Houston four running backs on the roster as the team prepares to host the Dallas Cowboys.
Ogunbowale spent the 2022 through 2025 seasons with Houston and played in more than 60 games. His work came primarily on special teams, but he also recorded 91 rushing attempts for 295 yards and three touchdowns during that span.
David Montgomery and Woody Marks are expected to continue handling most of the Texans' offensive snaps at running back. British Brooks could also remain ahead of Ogunbowale in the weekly order, meaning the returning veteran is not expected to immediately change the team's leading options on offense.
The reason for the signing was not yet clear in the report. One possibility is that Houston is preparing for a potential injury in the position group, though player injury information for Week 4 was not expected to be available until after Wednesday's practice. Another possibility is that the Texans wanted an experienced depth option who could also contribute on special teams.
Ogunbowale served as a Houston team captain last season and accumulated more than 1,000 special-teams snaps over his four previous seasons with the club. The report also noted that head coach DeMeco Ryans has repeatedly praised him during his time with the team.
