Quarterback DJ Lagway has officially transferred to Baylor following a challenging season at the University of Florida. Lagway, who was highly regarded as the No. 3 ranked player in his class, initially entered Florida with high expectations as the successor to Graham Mertz.

However, after Mertz's injury in the sixth game of the season, Lagway stepped in as the starter and led the Gators to a 5-1 record over the final six games, including notable victories over ranked teams.

Despite a promising start, Lagway's second season did not unfold as anticipated. He struggled with injuries and faced significant challenges, including a disappointing loss to South Florida, marking the first defeat for Florida against the Bulls.

The situation worsened with a five-interception game against LSU, contributing to a disappointing overall record of 4-8 for the Gators, which led to the firing of head coach Billy Napier.

Seeking a new opportunity, Lagway entered the Transfer Portal and subsequently joined Baylor, where he will play under head coach Dave Aranda. Tim Tebow, a former Florida quarterback, commented on Lagway's transfer, stating that he believes Lagway needed a new environment to thrive. Tebow noted the pressure Lagway faced at Florida and expressed confidence that a change would allow him to perform better.

Lagway's first game as a Bear will be against Auburn, a crucial matchup for both him and Coach Aranda, as they aim to bounce back from a disappointing previous season. A victory in this game could significantly enhance the perception of Lagway and the Baylor program as they prepare for upcoming challenges in the Big 12.

The game against Auburn is set to take place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, kicking off at 3:30 PM (ET) on ABC. The outcome is particularly important for Lagway and Aranda, who are both looking for a strong start to the season.
