Duran’s ninth-inning double lifts Rangers past Giants, 5-4

Duran decides it late

Ezequiel Duran’s ground-rule double in the bottom of the ninth inning brought Burger home with the deciding run, sending the Texas Rangers past the San Francisco Giants 5-4 on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Globe Life Field.

Duran drove in four of Texas’ five runs. His final hit came after San Francisco had tied the game in the top of the ninth, and it gave the Rangers the last answer in a game that shifted sharply over the final three innings.

Rangers build early edge

Texas took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Nimmo doubled to right, scoring Pederson and moving Seager to third. Duran followed with a single to right that scored Seager and moved Nimmo to third.

MacKenzie Gore pitched six innings for Texas, allowing three hits and no earned runs with three walks and four strikeouts. For San Francisco, Blade Tidwell worked five innings, giving up six hits and two earned runs with one walk and three strikeouts.

Giants rally, Texas responds

San Francisco tied it 2-2 in the seventh on the game’s only home run. Basabe homered to left, a 377-foot shot that scored Gilbert.

Texas moved back in front in the eighth. Duran doubled to right, scoring Langford and Seager while Nimmo advanced to third, putting the Rangers ahead 4-2.

Robby Ahlstrom pitched one inning for Texas, allowing no hits or walks and striking out two. Peyton Gray worked one-third of an inning, allowing no hits or walks and striking out one.

Final swing settles it

The Giants tied the score again in the top of the ninth when Eldridge singled to right, scoring Gilbert and McCray. In the bottom half, Duran’s ground-rule double scored Burger and moved Seager to third for the final 5-4 margin.

Jacob Latz (3-1) was credited with the win and a blown save after one inning in which he allowed two hits, one earned run and one walk with one strikeout. Dylan Smith (0-4) took the loss, allowing two hits and one earned run in two-thirds of an inning with one walk and one strikeout.

Attendance was 26959. The Rangers improved to 56-58, and the Giants fell to 48-66.
