Burger Drives In Key Runs
Jake Burger provided the offensive spark for the Texas Rangers on Saturday, delivering two home runs and driving in three total runs to lead Arlington past Seattle, 5-4. The victory improved the Rangers’ record to 52-51, while the Mariners fell to 51-53.
Burger’s first major contribution came in the fourth inning. He launched a 362-foot home run to right field, which also scored Marcus Duran. The blast gave Texas a 3-1 lead and shifted the momentum of the game.
Later in the sixth inning, Burger added another run to the tally with a single to center field that brought in Brandon Nimmo, extending the Rangers’ advantage to 4-3.
Mariners Fight Back in Middle Innings
The Seattle Mariners had taken an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when Josh Naylor’s teammate, Langford, homered to left field, measuring 384 feet. However, the Rangers tied the game in the second inning when Wyatt Wilson singled to right, allowing Naylor to score and putting Young on third base.
Seattle regained the lead in the fifth inning. With the score tied 3-3, Canzone doubled to center field, bringing in Randy Arozarena and Luke Emerson to make it 3-5. The Mariners appeared to be in control heading into the final innings, but the Rangers mounted a comeback in the ninth.
Late Wild Pitch Keeps Rangers Alive
The game remained tense in the ninth inning. After the Rangers had cut the deficit to 3-4 in the sixth, they added a run in the top of the ninth when Emerson scored on a wild pitch by Seattle reliever Jacob Latz. This made the score 4-5.
Latz, who earned the save, allowed one hit and one earned run in his 1.0 inning of work. The Rangers’ bullpen held the Mariners scoreless in the bottom of the ninth to secure the win. Tyler Alexander, who entered the game in relief, also contributed to the save effort, allowing one hit in 0.2 innings.
Pitching Decisions and Final Stats
MacKenzie Gore started for the Rangers but did not earn the win. He pitched 5.0 innings, allowing seven hits and five earned runs while striking out five batters. Peyton Gray earned the win for Texas, pitching 1.0 scoreless inning with two strikeouts. Jakob Junis and Cole Winn also pitched scoreless relief innings, combining for two more saves in the bullpen effort.
For Seattle, Bryce Miller took the loss after pitching 5.1 innings, giving up six hits and five earned runs with one walk and no strikeouts. Eduard Bazardo and Michael Rucker provided relief, with Rucker striking out three batters in 2.0 innings. The game was played in front of 33,478 fans at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
