Deciding Runs
The Texas Rangers dropped an 8-3 decision to the Athletics on Saturday, August 15, at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento. The decisive sequence came in the sixth inning when the home team extended their lead.
Jeff McNeil hit a 400-foot home run to right field to make it 3-4, followed by a 411-foot solo shot to center by Butler in the seventh that pushed the score to 3-5. The Athletics added two more runs in the eighth to close the gap.
Game Flow
The Rangers struck first in the top of the first inning. Cortes doubled to right field, driving in Gelof, Wilson, and Soderstrom to put the visitors ahead 3-0. The Athletics responded in the bottom of the sixth.
Burger hit a 428-foot home run to center, scoring Seager and Duran to tie the game at 3-3. McNeil then homered to right field to give the A's a 4-3 lead. Butler’s homer in the seventh and an eighth-inning play involving a fielder's choice and a throwing error by catcher Diaz extended the Athletics' advantage to 6-3.
McNeil finished the scoring with a double to right that scored Bolte and Heim, making the final margin 8-3.
Pitching Performance
Kumar Rocker started for the Rangers, pitching 5.0 innings while allowing four hits, three earned runs, five walks, and striking out three batters. Chase Silseth took the loss after one inning, allowing one hit and one earned run while striking out two. Robby Ahlstrom pitched one inning, allowing one hit and one earned run with two strikeouts.
Tyler Alexander threw 0.1 innings, allowing three hits, two earned runs, two walks, and one strikeout. Marco Gonzales finished the game with 0.2 scoreless innings, allowing no hits or walks.
For the Athletics, Gage Jump started and pitched 5.1 innings, allowing three hits, three earned runs, four walks, and one strikeout. Luis Medina earned the win with 1.1 scoreless innings, one walk, and two strikeouts. Drew Rom pitched 0.2 innings, allowing one hit and one strikeout.
Elvis Alvarado threw 0.2 scoreless innings, one walk, and one strikeout. Hogan Harris closed the game with one scoreless inning and no hits allowed.
Final Records
The Athletics improved to a 48-74 record, while the Rangers fell to 60-63. The game drew an attendance of 8,082 fans. The Rangers’ offense was highlighted by McNeil’s performance, but they could not overcome the Athletics' balanced attack.
