Baldwin’s Historic Night
Austin Baldwin delivered a career-defining performance at the plate, recording five hits including two home runs to lead the Atlanta Braves to an 8-5 victory over the Texas Rangers on Sunday. Baldwin’s offensive output was the catalyst for Atlanta, which capitalized on his power to build an insurmountable lead in the early innings and hold off a late Texas rally.
Baldwin’s first home run came in the third inning, a 395-foot shot to right center that extended the Braves’ lead to 3-0. He added another in the eighth inning, a 392-foot blast to center field that pushed the score to 8-4. His five-hit effort included a sacrifice fly in the first inning that scored the game’s first run.
Riley’s Power Surge
Austin Riley complemented Baldwin’s performance with two home runs of his own. Riley opened the scoring in the second inning with a 416-foot homer to left field. He added a second solo shot in the fourth inning, a 413-foot drive to center field, giving Atlanta a 4-0 advantage.
Riley also contributed in the seventh inning with a single to center field that drove in two runs. His hit allowed Adolis Dubón and Marcell Ozuna to score, increasing the Braves’ lead to 6-3. Later in the same inning, he was thrown out at home plate attempting to score on a double by Evan White.
Rangers’ Late Rally Falls Short
The Texas Rangers mounted a comeback attempt in the fifth inning, scoring three runs to trim the deficit to 4-3. Josh Jung and Wyatt Langford both contributed with a double and a sacrifice fly, while Matt Olson’s double plated Langford. However, the Rangers could not overcome the early deficit.
